Measure the furniture and the route, not only the front door. A sofa can pass through an opening and still fail at a hallway turn, stair landing, or elevator entrance.

Start with three sofa measurements

Record the sofa’s overall width from arm to arm, its depth from the back to the front edge, and its height from the floor to the highest point. If the legs unscrew without force, measure both with and without them. For a sectional, count and measure each module. Note sleeper beds, powered recliners, and connected consoles because they change weight and handling.

Walk the exact route

Measure the clear width and height of every doorway. Then check the space immediately before and after each opening. A diagonal move needs turning room. On stairs, measure the narrowest width, landing depth, ceiling height, and railings. In an apartment, check the elevator door, cab depth, and reservation rules.

Removal-day measurement list

  • Sofa width, depth, and height
  • Each removable sectional module
  • Narrowest door and hallway
  • Sharpest turn or stair landing
  • Elevator door and interior dimensions
  • Distance from the room to the loading point

Clear the route without risking injury

Move lamps, rugs, plants, pet gates, and small tables. Keep children and pets away from the work path. Do not attempt to force a sleeper sofa upright or remove hidden hardware if the mechanism is unfamiliar. Send measurements and clear photos with your request so the provider can assess the route before arrival.

If the route is tight, review the couch and sofa removal details and describe the narrowest point when you request an estimate.
